Born August 27, 1948 in Staunton, she was a daughter of the late Kathleen (Kelley) Barton and raised by the late, Mary Smith. On August 27, 1971 she married Paul L. Raybin. The two shared 54 years of wonderful marriage.
Wilma was formerly employed by the Staunton News Leader, where she served as the accounting manager. She was a caregiver in every sense of the word—always putting others first, always making sure everyone around her was okay, and always giving of herself without hesitation. She had a creative spirit and enjoyed bead art, often working on one project after another. She also enjoyed tending to her flower beds. Wilma was an incredibly talented cake designer, known by family and friends for making the most beautiful—and most delicious—cakes. Her baking wasn’t just a skill; it was one of the many ways she showed love to those around her. She also had a deep love for animals, caring for them with the same kindness and compassion she gave so freely to everyone in her life. Wilma’s warmth, generosity, and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but the care and love she gave so freely will never be forgotten.
In addition to her mother and adoptive mother, she was preceded in death by a brother, Doug Barton.
Survivors include her loving husband, Paul Raybin of Staunton; beloved daughter, Jennifer Bowman and husband, John, of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Michelle and Riley Bowman; brother, Carl Barton and wife, Lou of Staunton; sister, Brenda Robinson and husband, Frank of Greenville; and nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
