Marjorie Jean Chomer

Marjorie was born on February 22, 1939. A professionally trained vocalist and musician who attended Moody Bible Institute as a young woman, she loved to sing. She took great delight in later years in her role performing Handel’s Messiah with the Moody Chorale each year. She was most happy when her voice brought glory to the God she loved with all her heart.

Marge dearly loved the Lord and it was her greatest joy to share his abundant mercy and love with all she met. She was an avid scholar of the Bible, with notebook upon notebook full of verses that she held as dear promises.

When she wasn’t studying the Bible, Marge could be found reading numerous books and working on beautiful, artistic, hand-drawn designs. She had a great love of nature and often rushed to tell her family about a delightful bird or swishy-tailed squirrel that had captivated her.

Marge married the late Orville Chomer in 1961, and they lived together in Michigan for over 20 years before relocating to Chicago. They were married for 47 years. Marge is survived by three children: Orville Chomer(Yvonne); Heather Downes(Emmet); and Christy Karnatz(Mike). She is also survived by two grandchildren: Joe and Ian Downes.

Marge’s joy and humor left a lasting mark on those who were blessed to have her in their lives. But it was her deep love of her husband, her children, her grandchildren, her children’s friends, her friends and the people she encountered along her path that was her greatest legacy.

A visitation for Marjorie will be held Saturday, June 25, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mount Auburn Funeral Home, 4101 South Oak Park Ave, Stickney, IL 60402, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The family asks that masks be worn during the visitation and services due to health and covid concerns.
