

Mr. Benjamin Thomas Callaway, a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, passed away on August 7, 2025, in Covington, Georgia. He was 83 years old. Born on December 5, 1941, in Conley Georgia, Benjamin was the son of Laura Belle and Thomas Callaway. He grew up in a close-knit family and carried the values of service and dedication throughout his life.
Benjamin served honorably in the United States Air Force, demonstrating a deep commitment to his country. His time in the military was a defining chapter of his life and one that he carried with pride.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Ronice, with whom he shared many cherished memories. Together they had two daughters.
Benjamin is survived by his siblings: Clifford (Cheryl) Callaway, Harry Callaway, and Betty Griffin, his daughters Lisa (David) Hensley and Tammy (Steve) Hensley. He was a proud grandfather to Taylor (Elizabeth) Hensley, Mason (Samantha) Hensley, Sarah Hensley, and Tess (Travis) Goodwin. His legacy continues through his great-grandson, James Hensley. He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy (Claude) Crim, Parents, Thomas and Laura Belle Callaway and beloved nephew, Clint Callaway. Benjamin leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins who will all remember him fondly.
Ben’s nickname is Gentle Ben. Everyone loved him and he loved them back! He was often the life of the party. He had a beautiful heart and contagious laugh. When he returned from the military he worked at Eastern Airlines and later retired as a car salesman. He was great with people and thrived in that role.
The last few years have been a struggle with Alzheimer’s Dementia. He fought the good fight and did his best to maintain his jovial spirit and independence. He was loved by everyone who ever had the fortune to get to know him and will be sorely missed. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting tribute to a life well lived.
A Funeral will be held on August 30, 2025 beginning at 01:00 p.m. at Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel on 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge , GA 30281. The family will be receiving guests at 11:00 a.m. for visitation prior to the service. An inurnment at Fairview Memorial Gardens, 164 Fairview Road, Stockbridge ,GA 30281 directly following the funeral service.
