Callie B. Simmons, aka "Callie B.", departed this life on August 28, 2023 in Stockbridge, Georgia. Callie was born on June 6, 1944 in Delco, North Carolina. She graduated from Armour High School in 1962.
Callie left North Carolina and moved north to Piscataway, New Jersey where she met the love of her life, David Simmons. The two met on his birthday September 25, 1968 and have been together ever since. They married on August 6, 1977 and were married for 46 years. Callie and David moved to Plainfield, New Jersey where they raised their three children. Callie loved her family and did everything she could to keep them together and always made everyone feel welcomed. She was the oldest of seven, with six younger brothers. When her brothers would visit from N.C., she made sure she had a big pot of spaghetti waiting for them and they ate every bit.
Callie was a country girl at heart. She loved planting her vegetable garden and planting her favorite flowers, begonias. She also loved to crochet and made blankets for just about everyone. She also loved doing jigsaw puzzles in her spare time, spending long periods of time determined to find that one piece. Callie, loved yard sales. In Plainfield, she was known as the yard sale lady on 4th Street and Grant Avenue. She helped furnish many homes in the neighborhood. If someone was looking for something, they would come to her first. In 2006, she and David moved south and resided in McDonough, Georgia. In order to keep herself busy, she became an in-home caregiver to many, including Mr. & Mrs. Olen Gunnin in Fayetteville, Georgia. They are responsible for getting her hooked on the Atlanta Braves.
Callie is survived by her husband, David A. Simmons of McDonough, GA; son, Glenn Simmons of Ladson, SC; daughter, Rosalind Gee of McDonough, GA; grandson, Daniel W. Gee III of McDonough, GA; granddaughter, Jazmin Russell of McDonough, GA; brothers, Andrew (Patricia) Rowell of Wilmington, NC; Rufus (Gatha) Rowell of Burgaw, NC; Nathaniel Rowell of Burgaw, NC; James (Dyann) Rowell of Currie, NC; Jerry (Sandra) Rowell of Leland, NC; sister, Jannie Solomon of New City, NY; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and last but not the least, Bleu, her great grand pup. Callie was a loving wife, mother, big sister, auntie to many and a great friend who will be missed by all. She has left a little of herself in each one of us to carry on her legacy of loving others. She will never be forgotten and will live on forever in our hearts.
