Dorothy Janell Farr Redding was born in Tyrone, Georgia on August 1, 1936. She was raised there with her five older sisters. Her father was a sharecropper and all the girls worked on the farm.
She later moved to Atlanta to live with her sister, Margaret and her husband. She worked for Curtis Candy Company and met Jesse Edward Redding in a diner, where SHE BOUGHT HIM a cup of coffee. They were married on December 21, 1956.
Nell (as she was called by Ed) and Ed raised their four children in the Swan Lake Community after moving their house from College Park to Stockbridge. After Steve was born, she became a full time mother and homemaker.
She and Ed were married over 60 years before he preceded her in death in July, 2017. She is also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Patricia Diane Redding Reeves, who also died in July, 2017.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Redding Blankenship and her two sons, Stephen and Bradley Redding.
Her grandchildren include: Sheree' Brown, Jacob and James Reeves and Jessica Redding. Her great-grandchildren are Jackson Broome, Jaley Marie and Ruby Phoenix Reeves. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
She and Ed have been members of Bethel United Methodist Church on Fairview Road for a number of years. When their health allowed, they attended church regularly.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 4:00PM-7:00PM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home-Fairview Chapel, 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 11:00AM at Bethel United Methodist Church, 245 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia. Burial will immediately follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
