Irine Celestine Humphreys

Irine (Serene) Celestine was born to Leonie Joseph and Kendrick Nathaniel on April 24, 1938, In Willikies Village Antigua. Serene as she was lovingly called was the oldest & only girl in the family.

In early 1960’s, she migrated to St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, where she met and married the love of her life; the late Samuel Humphreys, Sr. She was delighted in being a stay at home mom to her four children. In early 1970’s, Serene became a devoted Seventh-day Adventist and was very strong in her faith. Her daughter, Judith, can attest to the early morning and Friday afternoon worshipping and praising God. The family believes that a family that prays together stays together.

In addition to her parents, Leonie Joseph and Kendrick Nathaniel, Serene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Mr. Samuel E. Humphreys, Sr.; three brothers, Llewellyn and Basil Joseph and Connie Nathaniel; one son-in-law, David Johnson; two brothers-in-law, Stedroy Meade and Carlton Hughes; and several nieces and nephews.

She leaves to mourn her children Judith, Julia, Jonnile, Samuel Jr, step-daughter Sherlene and adopted daughter Maggie; brothers Winston, Frederick, and Oslyn Nathaniel; sister Alicia Nathaniel; Sisters-in-Law Mary Donovan, Goldine Meade, Enis Nathaniel, Suzanna Kirby, Faith Anthony, Verna Humphreys and Rosie Nathaniel; grandchildren Randy, Jamila, Simone, Rasheedah, Rashawn and Renay; great grandchildren Jazmin, Elijah, Shamayah, Rachel, Jordan, Riley, Skylar, Isabella, Hailey, Jailah, Jihad and Jameel; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, too numerous to mention; and a best friend of more than 40 years, Laurel Thomas.

A visitation of family and friends will be held for Irine on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at New Hope Seventh Day Adventist Church | 3979 Panthersville Road Ellenwood, GA 30294, followed by a celebration of her life at 1:00 PM in the sanctuary.
