Sherry Hattie York, affectionately known as "Mama Sherry" to so many, leaped out of her limited, broken, diseased body at sunrise, just as God's mercies are new every morning, Saturday, May 24, 2025, sprinting toward her Savior, Jesus Christ's open arms! As her arms reached for Him with a huge smile on her face, she rejoiced triumphantly shouting over death and the grave they no longer can hold her back!
Shouting from the rooftops in celebration over Mama Sherry's triumph here on Earth are her daughters, Shanda Terrell and Sherri Michelle Kelly, son-in-laws: Clayton Terrell and Perry Kelly, grandchildren: Destiny Fieldhouse, and her husband Joshua Fieldhouse, Phillip Kelly, John DeLay, Railey Kelly, Claire DeLay, Caleb Kelly, and Madeleine Terrell, her first great-grandchild, Ruthie Fieldhouse, her brother John Ronald "Ronnie" Marchant, all of her nieces, nephews and cousins, AND her church, of whom many she considered her spiritual children and family, at New Covenant Church of God!
We know there is a huge party in heaven celebrating Mama Sherry's victory, her life of dedication, and her loyalty to Jesus' love for all mankind. Greeting Mama Sherry with open arms and huge smiles in heaven at this celebration are her parents, John A. Marchant and Margaret Marchant, her Grandparents, many Uncles and Aunts, friends, and her sweet kitty, Tigger! I am sure Mama Sherry is tearing up that dance floor, just as she did when she entered couples dance competitions winning almost each one. She is zigzagging as she goes one-on-one with Jesus in some basketball, as she did in High School and her early 20s. She is laughing, socializing like a butterfly, and having the time of her spiritual life!
Here, Mama Sherry leaves a tremendous legacy of Love and Acceptance. While she was here, fortune and fame were not her goals. Her life purpose was to truly be the hands, feet, heart, hug, and smile of Jesus Christ as she shared, with each person she met, the Unconditional Love of Christ. Mama Sherry wanted them to know they were seen, valued, and loved just as they were, right where they were! Mama Sherry volunteered many years, after working all day, at Calvary Refuge homeless shelter. She was later employed there as their accountant, but her heart were the people in their struggles. She would greet them at the door, no matter how they looked or smelled, would give them a big hug, welcoming them with Jesus’ love. She would share the love of Jesus with them and take them to church if they asked to go. All they wanted was what she had, that sustaining peace and overwhelming love and joy.
Mama Sherry may have been "a little old lady" in her human stature, but she was a GIANT IN LOVE and a servant of God! She did not know the meaning of the words "give up"! She never gave up on God, her faith, her complete healing, her family, nor mankind! She believed because she knew with God anything IS possible and nothing is impossible!
Mama Sherry, we will all miss your presence, your contagious laughter, your firm-faced "No!", your excitement at seeing us and stretching out your arms, you sharing your wisdom and experiences to enhance our faith, you dancing in your wheelchair, you showing up – even on difficult days, your engulfing hugs, how your whole face lights up when you smile, and your always unconditional love!
Now we are running to catch up with you as we carry on your legacy of Love and Acceptance of the many who need to hear and see the Love of Jesus Christ! We accept this challenge and are ready to be equipped on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM at New Covenant Church of God located at 154 Jonesboro Road, McDonough, Georgia 30253.
Mama Sherry loves color, so please everyone wear something purple and colorful. Mama Sherry loved the Outreach Ministry, Music Ministry, Dance/Arts Ministry, and Children/Youth Ministry in her church, of which she volunteered every chance she could. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to New Covenant Church of God in her name.
