

He was born in Forest Park, Georgia, on July 24, 1951, to the late Mr. Elmore “Sweetie” Dodson and Mrs. Elizabeth “Tip” Wadley. He was the first of six children and was affectionately called “Bubba” by all who knew and loved him.
Wayne became a member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church in Jonesboro, Georgia, at a young age, establishing a foundation of faith that remained with him throughout his life. He attended J.W. Arnold Elementary School in Jonesboro and graduated from Murphy High School in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1969. He continued his education at Atlanta Area Tech and Clayton State College. With a passion for retail and supermarkets, Wayne pursued a career in the industry, eventually managing one of the well-known A&P store chains, where he dedicated himself to excellence in service and leadership. Wayne dedicated 28 years of service before retiring from his role at the Jonesboro, Georgia location.
As a devoted Braves fan, he joyfully cheered on his favorite team. He deeply appreciated nature, often spending peaceful moments walking outdoors. Wayne also had a keen interest in photography, technology, and the latest gadgets, always eager to explore and embrace new innovations. His passions brought him happiness and enriched the lives of those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Elmore “Sweetie” Dodson and Elizabeth “Tip” Wadley. Wayne’s legacy lives on through those who love, cherish, and admire his journey through life. He leaves his memories to be treasured by: his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Judy (Married May 21, 1975); one son, Wayne Mashun Dodson Sr.; grandchildren, Deshawn Martez Dodson, Wayne Mashun Dodson, Jr. and Kaylie Mashun Donson; great-granddaughter: Dream E.M. Dodson; sisters, Wanda Daniel, Robbie (Richard) Childs; brothers, Charles H. (Teria) Smith, Hamilton (Seryne) Smith and Kevin (Chana) Smith; two beautiful aunts, Marion Wadley Dorsey and Florance Langford along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation of family and friends will be held for Wayne on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Ward's Chapel. Services will conclude with a graveside committal at 1:00 PM at Kelley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery | 3411 Kelley Chapel Road, Decatur, GA 30034. Jeff Clark and David Clark, officiating.
Serving as pallbearers are Charles Smith, Hamilton Smith, Kevin Smith, Chris Snow, Timothy Snow, Dennis Daniel, and Robert Hall.
