Antonietta Alice Barro (Battistiol) was born April 12, 1932 in the small town of Oderzo near Venice, Italy. She was the only daughter with four brothers in the family, and was born during a very tough time in Italy, where jobs were scarce, poverty was rampant, fear existed, and wars were being waged by the government. She was just a little girl when Italy entered WWII. The signs and sounds of war were always present near her home town during the war. Towards the end of the war and to help her family out during tough financial times, she learned how to sew and work as a seamstress at 12 years old. She continued to work as seamstress, in Italy and including 2 years in Switzerland, all the way up to the time she was married to her husband Bruno in 1959. They were married nearly 59 years when she passed and knew each other for close to 68 years. In 1961, Antonietta and Bruno immigrated by ship across the Atlantic to the United States, initially through New York, passing through New Jersey, Las Vegas, and ultimately to reside in Stockton, California. She worked at The Brown House on the Miracle Mile performing dress alterations until her first son, Luciano, was born in 1963. The birth of Luciano forever changed her life, as he was born with special needs. She took care of him for 52 years, faithfully, until his death in 2015.
Antonietta enjoyed going to Santa Cruz, Lake Tahoe, enjoyed dancing, shopping, the company of friends, and especially enjoyed the company of her precious granddaughters. She was an incredible cook and made many delicious and authentic Italian meals. Every Sunday was spent eating a special pasta dish with roast. Even the family pets over the years enjoyed the pasta meals. She was a devout Catholic and went to church every Sunday and prayed to Saint Anthony, her favorite saint. Even though she had a tremendous responsibility to take care of her family and especially Luciano, she was always happy and enjoyed a full and complete life.
Antonietta passed away peacefully the morning of April 5, 2018 with her son Roberto by her side. She is preceded in death by her father Amedeo Battistiol, mother Maria Busanello, brothers Luciano and Pietro, son Luciano, and brother Mario.
Antonietta is survived by her husband Bruno, her son Roberto, daughter-in-law Lisa, her granddaughters Sabrina and Allison, her brother Guido Battistiol in Italy, and all her many nieces and nephews in Italy. She was loved by all and especially by her son Roberto – she will be truly missed, never forgotten, and will always be in his heart.
Visitation will be held on Thursday April 19th from 10 am to 5:30 pm, with the Rosary beginning at 5:30 pm, DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Drive, Stockton, CA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday April 20th at 10 am at Presentation Church, 6715 Leesburg Pl, Stockton, CA. A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date. Antonietta will be laid to rest through a private committal at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi CA.
