Barbara Engstrom

Barbara Jean Engstrom, 83, of Stockton, passed away on November 24, 2021, with her family by her side, after bravely fighting a progressive neurological disease, further complicated by contracting Covid-19. Barbara was born Barbara Jean Scholl on February 26, 1938, in Bret Harte, CA, to Cyril & Barbara Scholl.

Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, J.A. (Bud) Engstrom; her parents Cyril and Barbara Scholl; and her sister, Shirlene Cook. She is survived by her children, Ronald Engstrom (Donna), Steven Engstrom (Carlyn), and Kimberlyn Engstrom; grandchildren, Ross Engstrom & Cole Engstrom; brother, Cyril Fredrick Scholl Jr. (Kathryn); and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was naturally gifted with numbers and attention to detail. She used these talents and hard work to gain the positions of Vice President and Cashier for Bank of Agriculture & Commerce during the seventies and early eighties. In later years, she held several accounting positions in Stockton and Jackson before retiring in 2004.

Barbara enjoyed traveling and often spoke of the vacations she and Bud took to Europe and Hawaii. She was drawn to the ocean and loved taking trips to Monterey, Aptos, and Hawaii. One of her simple pleasures was to take a Sunday drive, often leading her and Bud to the foothills or to the coast visiting the begonia gardens of Santa Cruz.

Barbara had impeccable taste that was reflected in the pride she took in making a beautiful home. She was also known for her love of gardening and was often told that she had a green thumb because of her ability to grow anything.

She will be remembered as a compassionate, creative, and generous person who could be counted on to be there for you in your time of need. Family meant everything to her, and nothing brought her more pleasure than celebrating holidays, birthdays, and special occasions together.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at De Young Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Drive, Stockton, CA with a Vigil to follow at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of the Presentation, 1515 W. Benjamin Holt Drive, Stockton, CA. Committal will immediately follow at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, CA.
