Jane B DeGroot

Jane Bernadette Murphy was born on March 8, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois at St. Bernard’s Hospital. Her parents were John Basil Murphy and Marie Harney. She was the youngest of 7 children. She grew up in a very loving Catholic family with her sisters Elizabeth (Covey), Marie Celine, Patricia (O’Brien), and her brothers Joseph, John (Jack), and Robert. Years later she graduated from this same hospital with a Medical Surgical Nursing Degree. In 1956 she married Harland Edwin Langdon and went on to have 9 children: Michael Langdon, Mary Langdon (Vink), Joseph Langdon, Tim Langdon, Katie Langdon (Gauuan) Tom Langdon, John Langdon, Martin Langdon, and Paul Langdon. The Langdon family lived in Chicago, Illinois, Syosset, New York, Santa Maria, California, Cold Spring Harbor, New York, and eventually settled in Lodi, California in 1972. While in Lodi, Jane served 9 years on the St. Anne’s School Board and 3 years on the Parish Council. Besides raising a family, Jane worked as a nurse starting in Chicago and was later hired by Lodi Memorial Hospital to serve as an Emergency Room Nurse where she continued for 17 years. After that she was hired by Kaiser Permanente in Stockton where she was promoted and eventually ended up being the “House Supervisor.” She was very much loved by her colleagues and worked with Kaiser for 15 years.

In 1991 Jane married Cornelius P. DeGroot and they made their home in Stockton. While living in Stockton Jane served 12 years on the Catholic Diocesan “Wisdom Committee,” which was an advisory board to the Bishop. Jane was always involved in the church and was a very devout and faithful servant to the Lord. Jane loved singing, attending the symphony, and joining friends and family at her favorite coffee shop-Noah’s.

Jane was surrounded by her family and friends and was comforted with both prayer and heartfelt song by all when she left this world peacefully on November 17, 2014, to be with the Father and her friends and family in Heaven.

Jane is predeceased by her parents John Basil Murphy and Marie Harney; her sisters Elizabeth Covey, Marie Celine Murphy, and Patricia O’Brien; brothers John (Jack) Murphy, Joseph Murphy; sons Michael Joseph Langdon and Joseph Langdon; and husbands Harland E. Langdon and Cornelius P. DeGroot. She is survived by her brother Robert Francis Murphy; sons Tim Langdon, Tom Langdon, John Langdon, Martin Langdon, Paul Langdon; daughters Mary Vink ( spouse Bart) and Katie Gauuan (spouse Cary); grandchildren Tiffany Langdon, Lindsay Gauuan, Jeffrey Langdon, Brett Langdon, Kelly Langdon, Mary Langdon, Anne Langdon, Theresa Langdon, Jane Langdon, Joseph Langdon, Coby Turner, Lia Rodriguez, Casey Vink, Nicole Vink, Kelly Vink, Robbie Langdon, Tim Langdon, Jr., Shelby Langdon, Paige Johnson; and great-grandchildren Harley Langdon, Cruze Langdon, Ryder Langdon, Mazzy Rodriguez, Alyssa Langdon, and Michael Langdon.
