JOHN DOUGLAS EDGE, 78, of Stockton, died peacefully at home on Thursday, April 4th, 2019.
Doug was born November 13, 1940 in Portland, Oregon to John Melbourne Edge and Edna May Schroeder Edge. The family moved to Stockton in 1948 after his parents divorced when Doug was 8 years old. He took the role of the man of the house and was molded into a fine gentleman; his mother meant the world to him as well as his two older sisters, Ardis, Adrienne and his youngest sister, Robin.
Doug was a natural born athlete, during his high school years, he was an outstanding varsity swimmer, standing at 6’2”, barrel chested, long legs, he was built for speed with a long arm span that made him the best swimmer in the league. Beyond his swimming brilliance, he was an intriguing figure, dark hair, tall and handsome. Doug’s sense of humor, laughter and that boyish twinkle in his eyes made him the life of the party. Doug was also academically gifted with honors and graduated from Franklin High School in June of 1959. He attended and graduated from Delta College and later studied for one year at Humphrey’s School of Law.
As a young teenager still in high school, Doug was an ambitious businessman, a true entrepreneur; he created Delta Building Maintenance which became one of the most successful janitorial companies in the San Joaquin area that started in 1956 and spanned for the next 62 years. Doug’s excellent reputation and professionalism caught the attention of Stockton’s elite construction companies, where he developed a system second to none detailing new constructed homes and commercial projects.
Doug met the love of his life, Sharon Darlene Head, a true beauty queen; Sharon was a finalist in the Miss World Pageant in 1964, also winning the title of Miss Northern California. Doug and Sharon married on July 15th, 1967 they spent their honeymoon driving their 1961 Corvette down the pristine California Coast on Highway 1. Both Doug and Sharon were car enthusiasts. They raced their Corvette and 1955 MG TF 1500 in many local events and were regulars at the Stockton Auto Cross Race Track. Sharon won most of the trophies; while Doug polished them. Doug’s pride was his 1971 Dino Ferrari which he drove on special occasions.
In 1975, Doug and Sharon purchased their family dream home on a 10 acre walnut orchard located on Hildreth Lane, where they raised their three children.
Doug is survived by his three children, Kimberly Renee Edge Slovatizki, Michelle Lynn Edge and John David Edge, grand-daughter Megan Elizabeth Slovatizki, his loving sister Robin Edge Linn Reynoir, special companion Jan Drake, her daughter Ginger Willhite, Carissa Barcelos and their entire loving family. Brother in-laws, Charlie Head and Marvin Head. Nephews Bruce McClure, Derick McClure, Matthew Thomas, Thomas Buonaccorsi and Christopher Linn. Nieces; Julie Thomas MacLeod-Marleau, Dana Thomas Sanderson, Tara Linn Caire and loved by the next generation of family and life long friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife of nearly 50 years Sharon Darlene Edge, sisters Ardis May Edge Buonaccorsi and Adrienne Edge Thomas and niece Cindy McClure Bendixen.
A Memorial Service will be held for Doug on Saturday, April 27th at Frisbie-Warren & Carroll Mortuary, 809 North California, Stockton at 1p.m.
