Michael was born in Stockton on January 4, 1950. He was raised on the family farm, spent some years trucking, but returned to farming and joined a business partnership with his son, Marc, in 2000, Cerri Farms. Marc has taken pride in the land, and we know he will carry on with honor, expertise, and strength.
On an Italian bus trip to Reno in 1974, he met Evonna Lynne. She was just what he needed, a beautiful woman inside and out. They dated and soon married in 1975. It was a marriage that lasted 48 years. Through all of the ups and downs, all of the laughs and tears, and through all of the health and sickness, she was there by his side. Our mother is a true example of love and loyalty.
Carmel was a special spot for Michael and Evonna and they would frequently go there in the early years of marriage. It was a place that brought them both relaxation and joy. During those years, they began to start their family. Marc Louis was born in 1978 and Christina Evelyn in 1981. Throughout the years, we shared in many memories of trips to Santa Cruz, dinners in the field during tomato harvest, and gatherings at home with close friends.
As Marc and Christina grew, more times were spent visiting Marc at Cal Poly or Christina in San Francisco. Michael and Marc would always find themselves talking about the ranch, and Christina would always find herself changing the subject to their common interest of the City and the love of great food. Those conversations will be greatly missed, and his famous recipes will be something we will continue in our family celebrations.
Michael became a Nonno in 2011 when Marc’s son, Austin John, was born. Christina’s daughter’s, Evelyn Marie, in 2012 and Cassie Jean in 2015. It brought him so much joy to watch Austin play baseball and see his Evy and Cassie laugh and dance like their mother. His grandchildren will always remember his playful side and silly nicknames he gave them. Sweet, sweet memories we will always share.
Our family would like to thank our close family and friends for their love and support throughout the years and during this time. We absolutely feel it. A special thank you to Hilary, who took such special care of him in these last years. They shared in many vulnerable moments, laughter and tenderness when together.
May our father rest in peace and in God’s care.
