Affectionately known as “Virgie,” she began her journey on October 30, 1953, in Bacarra, Philippines. As the eldest of five daughters born to Santos and Francesca Vallesteros, she naturally stepped into a role of leadership and care that would define her entire life. After graduating from Divine Ward College in 1974 with a degree in Commerce, she began a new chapter on May 15, 1976, when she married her lifelong partner, Francisco Caliboso Alvarado Sr..
Together, they bravely pursued the American dream, immigrating to the United States in 1980. Their first home was in Hilo, Hawaii, where Virgie’s heart expanded with the births of Ted (45), Mark (44), and Christy (42). In 1985, the family moved to Stockton, California where their circle of love was completed with the arrival of Maile (40) and Paul (35). Virgie’s life was a beautiful map of devotion, stretching from the shores of the Philippines to the islands of Hawaii, and finally taking deep root in Stockton, where her legacy of family remains her greatest achievement.
Virgie possessed a spirit that was both radiant and giving, a true gift to all who knew her. A vibrant social butterfly, she cherished every opportunity to create memories, especially during her cherished shopping trips and lunches with her mother and sisters. Her love was a verb, demonstrated by countless selfless acts, from ensuring her children were cared for with home-delivered food and medicine, to her unwavering devotion to her grandchildren. She was their dedicated chauffeur, their trusted babysitter, and their partner in shared smiles. They will forever hold dear the memory of their many after-school lunches and the quiet, loving generosity of a grandma who always managed to “sneak them money,” leaving behind a legacy of pure, unconditional love.
Besides her five children, Virginia is survived by her twelve beloved grandchildren: Mae (23), Mj (21), Jayden (20), Jeremy (19), Nicholas (18), Adonis(14), Mikayla (14), Noel (14), Evan (14), Alana (11), Julien (10), and Leland (4). She also leaves behind her son-in-laws, Sophany and Narin; daughter-in-laws, Jennifer, Julie, and Qewani; her mother, Francesca; and her sisters, Lilian, Bella, and Mila. Her memory will be honored by her nephews, Chris, Erwin, Louie, Markie, Allen, and RJ; her nieces, Alena and Lanie; and a host of friends who were lucky enough to call her family.
Viewing will be held at De Young Memorial Chapel 601 N. California St. in Stockton on Wednesday, January 28th from 2pm to 7pm, with the Rosary at 5:30pm. The funeral will be held the following day, on January 29th. Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church 3847 N. Sutter Street in Stockton at 12pm. Burial Services to follow at St. Joaquin Catholic Cemetery 719 E. Harding Way in Stockton.
