Dennis Merril Suitor

Dennis Merril Suitor passed away peacefully on the morning of September 5th at age 90, surrounded by his family’s love. A great listener with an enduring curiosity about the world, Dennis was a lifelong learner who built complex wooden puzzles and mastered technology well beyond most people of his generation. He was quiet and patient with a quick wit and an easy smile. He loved the Blue Jays, tennis, curling, and occasionally the Oilers—when they were on a winning streak. His favourite place was Kootenay Lake, where he spent many memorable years with his wife, Darlene.

His favorite role was that of being “Pa” to his grandkids and great grandkids. He took every opportunity to spend time with them, always doing the little extras to make them feel special. He was quick to get down on his knees to play on the floor, to attend sporting and school events, to attend family functions, or to just have a quick visit.

Dennis was predeceased by his beloved “Dar” in 2022. He loved her without reserve for over 40 years. He often expressed his great desire to be with her again. Through his resilience, he filled his life with adventures with his family, including yearly trips to the Kootenays. He made many new connections while treasuring old ones. Special thanks to his friends at Perks Coffee house in Spruce Grove and to his old friend, Allan Chalmers for adding joy to his, and to Darlene’s life.

Dennis is survived by Darlene’s children Michele Labbie (Don Vawter) and Jody (Cici) Labbie. He was a much loved “Pa” to Michele and Myron’s (Suitor) children Wes Suitor (Paige), Ali Rosadiuk (Justin) and Jill Nelson (Justin). He was tickled to be Pa again to Will & Emily (Wes and Paige) and to Mac, Maren and Archie (Ali and Justin). He was also a much loved “Pa” to Jody and Cici’s children Kyndra and Zack. And to Jody’s daughter Austyn.

Dennis was also predeceased by his parents Charlie and Marion, his sister Eileen and his brothers Sam (Moe) and Robert. He is survived by his brothers Joe (Selma) and Kenny (Bea), as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Dennis will be held on Sunday, November 8th at 1:00 pm in the second-floor events room at Dennis’s condo complex (Windsor Estates, 511 Queen Street, Spruce Grove, AB T7X 0G4). This will be followed by a time to share memories and light refreshments.
