OBITUARY

Dorothy Ekvall

IN THE CARE OF

Parkland Funeral Services

June 24,1928 - October 2, 2025

Our family is sad to say our beloved mom, Dorothy Ekvall passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025. She suffered a stroke on September 28, 2025 and she was admitted to University of Alberta Hospital. She never regained consciousness but her family all had the opportunity to tell her they loved her and to say their goodbyes.

She and her twin sister Doreen were born on June 24, 1928, in Kindersley Saskatchewan, to Pearl and Edgar Ament. They had an older brother Lloyd. The twins were best friends, often travelling together and kept in touch with regular phone calls.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, her husband Conrad and her twin Doreen.

She is survived by children Trudi, Debra, Terri and Todd. Nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Dorothy and Doreen attended Holy Cross School of Nursing in Calgary, AB, graduating in 1949. They both had long careers in nursing, attended class reunions and of course cared for their families. Dorothy and Conrad married in 1951 and lived in many different communities in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Ontario and finally back to Alberta. In retirement, they travelled in a camper to Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan and the US, spent time fishing, sightseeing and they were always involved in family activities. Some of mom’s favourite things were enjoying the sun on the beach beside a lake or ocean, relaxing in the Rocky Mountain hot springs or just going for a good walk.

Some of the years after Con passed away were challenging, with Covid and moving to two retirement facilities, but she soldiered on and made new friends and kept her family close.

She is remembered fondly with much love and will be missed greatly.

As per her wishes, no public memorial service is planned. Her ashes will be scattered in a few of her favourite spots at a later date.

Any donations can be directed to a charity of your choice or the Heart & Stroke foundation.
