Doug was a quiet and gentle man born to Mabel and Tom Henderson in Edmonton, Alberta on May 1, 1928. He was the oldest of 8 children, 6 boys and 2 girls: Doug, Helen, Derek, Gerald, Trevor, Lester, Rosemary and Hugh. He would often say, “If Mom called you for a meal, you better get there on time before there was nothing left”.
He loved to play cards, going to church and helping out the Boy Scouts with bottle caps and newspapers. Doug was never married but has lots of nieces and nephews.
Doug worked with his dad at the Highlands Golf Course for 1 year and then ventured out on his own. He worked on several farms in the area and finally went to work for Canadian Motor Transport.
Several years later he moved into Stony Plain and lived here for 30+ years. In May of 2013 he moved into Copper Sky Lodge in Spruce Grove. At the end of August he ended up with an infection and was sent to the Misericordia Hospital where he passed away peacefully on September 3, 2016.
He leaves to mourn his brothers: Hugh (Doreen) Henderson of Dauphin, Manitoba, Derek (Sylvia) Henderson of Gloucester, Ontario and Gerald Henderson of Halifax, Nova Scotia as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
