Ellen Raymond

Ellen Raymond, 86, was called home on September 2, 2026 at the Westview Health Centre in Stony Plain, surrounded by her family. Ellen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Ellen was born Mary Ellen Martha Smith on December 31, 1939 on the farm near Pickardville, AB to Albert & Sylvie Smith.

She met Roy in 1959. They married in July 1960 in the Pickardville United Church. In September 1961, they welcomed a son, Dannie Troy. In September 1966, a daughter, Tammy Ellen rounded out their family.

In 1969, Roy & Ellen bought a house in Keephills. It was here that they raised their family. In 1983, they moved to the new Keephills site where they lived until 2025.

Although Ellen was very shy, she was involved in the Keephills Athletic Association and spent many hours volunteering. At times being the head of the catering committee.

Ellen loved to knit and crochet blankets until arthritis made it too difficult. However, her number one hobby was reading. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t read.

Ellen is survived by her husband of 66 years, Roy; Her children Dannie (Angie) and Tammy (Doug); grandchildren, Nick (Katy), Dustin, Dylan (Kaitlyn) and Chelsea (Jonathan); great-grandson Reese; sisters Jean (Roger) and Linda (John); sisters-in-law Ila, Alma and brother-in-law Neil.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, September 14, 2026 at 1:00pm at the Keephills Community Hall. Interment to follow at the Keephills Cemetery, followed up with a lunch and fellowship back at the hall.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at the Westview Health Centre for their kindness and support during Ellen’s month-long stay. Also, to Home Care and Home Instead for their care the past 2 years.
