Gerald William STEADMAN

Passed away on 29 April, 2021

Gerald “Jed” William Steadman 1930 - 2021 With saddened hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Jed. Jed was born to Gordon and Isabella Steadman in Innisfail, Alberta. He was an electrician and repaired small motors for Bennett & Emmott. Jed spent a fair number of years pursuing Mary (from Aberdeen, Scotland), the love of his life. They tied the knot after he finally convinced her that he was the man for her. They eventually moved out to the acreage (Aberdeen Acres) where they lived with their numerous, very much loved dogs. Jed and Mary along with Joyce and John were actively involved in establishing The Farmer’s Market. They sold their homegrown vegetables, bedding plants, Mary’s jams and jellies and Jed’s wonderful and creative wood working projects. Jed and Mary spent the 54 years of their married life working side by side. You could often see them scouring the countryside picking berries and fireweed for Mary’s jams and jellies and gathering willows for Jed’s birdhouses which were found on their table at the Farmer’s Market. In the winter months they could be found working on their projects and watching hockey. Both Jed and Mary were Father and Mother figures, mentors and friends to so very many. They had a great many and varied group of friends from every area of life. They established their Farmer’s Market family. A very tightly knit group of vendors and customers. When they were no longer able to participate at the market they felt a great loss in their life as did those who worked alongside of Jed and Mary and those who came to shop at their table regularly. On November 12, 2020 Jed lost his beloved Mary. He missed her deeply. His world of 54 years was greatly changed. In March of this year Jed was diagnosed with cancer. During the past few weeks he spoke of her often and spent much of his time reminiscing. On April 29, 2021 Jed passed from this life to go meet his Mary once again. He leaves to mourn his loss his much loved nephews Larry Lindequest and Terry Asunma. A big thank you goes to Carol Wagner who spent an unlimited amount of time caring for Jed and Mary, taking them to their numerous appointments in the last few years. He also leaves to mourn their numerous friends whose lives they touched in a profound way. Cremation has already taken place. His remains will be taken to Innisfail where they will join his father, his beloved mother, his beloved niece Mary Lynn and his very much loved sister Mary. The love of his life, Mary, will be interned in New Zealand alongside her twin sister. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the doctors, medical staff, Homecare and housekeeping staff for all their caring, kindness and comfort extended.

Jed and Mary were neighbours in Rolling Hills. Jed was a man with a quick smile and a joke. He was the man to go to for any advise on acreage living. We loved Marys plants and jams. They both were fine people and although we are saddened by this passing we know he was just waiting until he could join his beloved Mary.

Oh Jed, you were such a lovely man. So cheerful and full of life. I will miss you and your fist bumps and all the fun you brought to us at the bank. My condolences to all who knew and loved Jed.
