Harry was born in Nelson BC, growing up in the Kootenay’s his whole life. Born as the second oldest to Ben and Verna. Raised by Mina and Ken. He had a rough childhood in part due to his asthma. It was so bad in his younger years that he was told he’d never grow up or get old. Oddly that was a line he would hear a bit in his life. He was a very smart boy thru school none the less. If the teacher had to leave the room, it was almost always declared “if questions ask Harry he’d know the answers”. He fought to be able to work he was declared unfit due to his asthma being so bad but work he did. He started off at a gas station in Ymir, when people paid cash in those days. After he worked for a few days, the owner said one day, “Let me shake the hand of an honest man”. The owner counted the cash at the end of each day and there was never any missing. Then heavy equipment in forestry for years. He had a deep love of trees and nature by planting and maintaining the forests. But during this time also spared on a tow truck for years as well. Being so relied on they would hand him keys to their towing business and home, to go on a vacation a time or two. Thru all of this got married and had 2 daughters of his own.
He had a love of photography and built his own dark room, developed pictures, started taking pictures as well. Gifted a few lucky couples’ free services to start a new hobby with a try of wedding photography. He really loved to share this with his daughters bringing them along to learn and spend time with. But scenic and animals were where it was at. If you haven’t checked out his photo album its maybe time to do so…. Photography Monkey Business on Facebook. He took pictures around his home in the west Kootenays and after he moved to Stony Plain Alberta, he drove the backroads 4X4 in places only the brave would try. At times stopping to chat to the homeowners and getting stories and photographs of animals, old homes, or even barns. He would share stories with his family as he loved the history of it all and how well the structures held up over the years. He would complain as years went on how much harder it was to find any animals to photograph.
He will be missed but not forgotten as he has passed his love of nature pictures on to a few grandkids thru the last few years. Enjoying them sharing their snaps on moms’ phone and saying how great they looked though blurry or whatever. He enjoyed encouraging them in a love of wildlife photography which will be continued on thru them.
He was predeceased by his Mom ( Verna ), Dad ( Ben ), Brothers ( Arthur, Ted, Eric), Uncle and Aunt ( Wally, Jean ).
Survived by sisters Karen, Ingrid, Nancy, cousin Glenda with numerous nieces and nephews. Daughters Yvette ( Lee ) Bellamy, Yvonne ( Matthew ) Maisonneuve, as well as his 3 granddaughters and 4 grandsons and a great grandson.
In loving memory, please feel free to donate to any local animal foundation, to keep nature and photography preserved for the next generation.
