Jeffrey Mark Kumar was born to Dr. Stan Kumar and Jean Kumar in Dublin, Ireland in 1960 and passed away in his home surrounded by family on October 31st, 2022, at the age of 62 . He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of thirty-two years, Michelle. They had three beautiful daughters: Hailey (Justin), Sienna (Zack) and Sydney (Jordan). Mark cherished spending time and making memories with his three precious grandkids: Harlow, Austin and Luke. He will be greatly missed by his Mother Jean, Sisters Lynda (Floyd) & Sherri (Les), Brothers Dave (Deanna) & Rich (Kim) and a large extended family of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Dr. Stan Kumar who passed in 2002, and his Auntie Margie in 2014.
Mark spent his childhood in the small town of Forestburg, where he was well known throughout the community. He was a well-respected member in the community where he volunteered his time to ambulance and fire services. While not volunteering, Mark had several hobbies and passions in life such as taekwondo, photography, music, golfing, fishing, kayaking and traveling. Traveling was something Mark especially valued in his life, often recalling the memorable moments he had abroad in his younger years. His love for traveling is something he instilled in his family with annual winter trips to Mexico. His daughters will forever remember his ability to haggle the best price, building sandcastles on the beach and the legendary salsa moves.
When it came to his career and professional development, Mark excelled and progressed to a position at the Sundance power plant that commanded a vast technical skillset encompassing vibration analysis, thermography and an in depth understanding of equipment function. This expertise was highly valued by his TransAlta family where in 2021 he was honored with receiving the Presidents award for technical excellence.
When not preventing the next power plant blackout, Mark would be found spending time with his friends and family. Annual traditional vacations at Fairmont Hot Springs and Winefred Lake will miss the constant conversation and endless stories Mark brought to the table. Mark had a knack for captivating all that were in his presence with his ability to tell a great story; of which he had many great stories to tell. These stories and conversation were also in no shortage at Mark’s lake lot, where he could be found most summer weekends chasing around his grandkids and spending time with his family. Mark was always the guy behind the grill cooking up burgers, the man behind the bar fixing up rum and cokes and the photographer behind the camera capturing family memories. The kindness, generosity and love Mark brought to his family and friends will forever be missed.
Please join us in celebrating Mark’s life on February 25, 2023 from 1PM to 4PM at the Forestburg Community Centre. We kindly ask you RSVP at the below link so the family can appropriately prepare for the event.
