We are saddened by the loss of our Mother and Wife and Friend of so many, who passed away on March 28, 2020 at the age of 76. Most of you who knew her are aware that her life’s accomplishments can not fit onto one page, but here is a small glimpse.
Judith Christine Bacchus
Daughter to Peck and Ruth Brennan and brother to Calvin Brennan she was born in McAdam, NB. She grew up surrounded by Aunts and Uncles and Cousins spending time on the many lakes and cottages/camps in the area. She graduated from McAdam High School in 1961.
In 1964 she graduated from Moncton School of Nursing. To the end she kept in contact with many of her classmates from back then, enjoying holidays, cruises and some good lobster dinners with them back in Moncton. She valued those friendships for sure.
In 1964 she married our Dad, Robert Bacchus and this past September they celebrated 55 years of marriage.
In October 1964, with our Dad already having spent some time in the north with the RCMP, they packed up and headed to Frobisher Bay. From there it was a move almost every 2-3 years. Richmond, Red Deer, Yellowknife and Fredericton. (Oh - and somewhere in there they had 3 great looking boys) When our Dad retired, they made the move back to Yellowknife. She had a true love for the north. After a quick stay in Parksville to make some more friends they finally settled in Edmonton. Her friendships made in each of those cities saw no boundaries. She would visit, they would visit. They would go on trips together and enjoy each other’s company.
She loved the Royal Family: books, tv shows, teacups, plates, pictures, magazines……………you name it she had it.
She loved quilting. Someone had a baby - you got a quilt. You got married - you got a quilt. The passion was really about her quilting friends again I know. They all supported each other and convinced each other that more fabric purchases were necessary!
She loved the outdoors and camping. Cooking hot dogs and breakfast over the firepit brought a smile to her face. It was a love passed down to all of us and we are grateful.
She loved cooking. There was nothing she wouldn’t cook or try to feed to us. Most of us will have memories of the gorging feasts she would put on. Many courses, lots of choices, and way too many desserts!
Most of all she loved her family, husband, children and the grandkids (who are not kids anymore) She would play music boxes for them as long as they’d like. Put out all her stuffed bunnies at Easter for them. Make them cookies. Support all their fundraising efforts. Go to all the meets they were in.
She spent the last 20 years volunteering and supporting the Festival of Tress (University Hospital Foundation) – Santa’s Secret Shop for young kids to shop on their own for loved ones. It was her way of giving back to all those that give so much. Her final words she would tell me every day when visiting her in the hospital would be how great all the nurses, staff, doctors were. “They are all just great” She would say. Thanks to all those who dedicate their lives to helping others in times of need.
Our Mom was not big on funerals or services. She would want you to remember her the way she was and to spend some time with your families and loved ones. Toast her around the firepit or lobster supper this summer. Love to all!
