Lea Diane Poulin, loving wife of Phillip Leon Poulin, of Stony Plain passed away peacefully in their family home in the early morning hours of December 8th 2018, at the age of 79. Lea’s family was nearby at the time of passing.
Lea was born on April 23, 1939 in Spiritwood, SK where she grew up on the Gaboury family farm with 7 other siblings. Lea completed nursing aide training and worked in Kindersley Saskatchewan.
After meeting Phil in North Battleford, she decided to follow him to Dawson Creek, where Phil was working on the Oil Rigs. Lea continued working as a nurse’s aide in Dawson Creek and Fort Saint John.
After courting they were married on April 18, 1959, in Spiritwood Saskatchewan. Phil worked with Lea’s older brother Phillip Gaboury at the service station in Spiritwood for a short while. Phil and Lea returned to Northern British Columbia to follow the oil rigs again.
In the spring of 1960, in Fort Saint John, BC, Phil and Lea’s first daughter and first of three children was born, Sandra Lynn Poulin. During Phil’s time on the oil rigs from 1959 to 1962 they lived in many communities throughout Northern British Columbia and Western Alberta.
In 1962 an opportunity arrived for Phil to work with his older brother Lionel Poulin in St. Paul, Alberta. During their time in St. Paul, Phil and Lea’s Second daughter was born. In the spring of 1963, Leanne Juliette Poulin was born.
In 1964, Phil and Lea found opportunity in Fort McMurray with opening the first grocery store in the small Northern Alberta town. While having success in Fort McMurray, Phil and Lea moved to Olds, Alberta in Late 1968.
Phil and Lea lived and raised their 2 daughters in Olds, while running the Hotel in town. Phil and Lea had their first son and third child in the winter of 1969, Daniel Phillip Poulin. Again, finding success in business, they decided to leave the town of Olds in 1971 and look for a new home and venture to build together.
In 1971, Phil and Lea found their calling in Stony Plain. While Phil ran various businesses throughout the years, Lea made herself a home with a solid foundation. Lea worked diligently to raise the family and provide a loving home, while instilling the importance family values in each of the kids. Family was of great importance to Lea. Lea regularly spoke to her parents, siblings and many other relatives. Family values were taught to Lea from her own mother. Lea’s mother, Lillian Gaboury and Lea’s Aunt Antoinette lived with her and Phil from 1991- 1993.
Lea had great attention for detail, whether in her home or in her yard. She prided herself on her gardening skills. Lea’s first passion was her family. Lea proved the mothers touch, listening ear, guidance through experience and support for each of us.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 59 years, by her children Sandra (Tim), Leanne (Marc),and Danny (Shawna), all her grandchildren Darcy (Phavida), Robyn(Christine), Shawn (Caitlyn), Alyssa, Cynthia (Luke), Samantha (Brenden), and Sheldon. She will be also be dearly missed by her great grandchildren Cameron, Ava, and Kaylyn. She will be missed by her sisters, brothers, and in-laws, and many relatives, and friends.
