1960 - 2024
It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we share the peaceful passing of Mary Ann MacDougall on December 27th, 2024, at the age of 64.
Mary Ann leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, held close by her devoted husband of 41 years, Brian MacDougall, her children Shawn (Kaley-lynn) MacDougall, Brian Tyler (Átila Meira) MacDougall, and Danielle (Curtis) Perran, and her beloved grandchildren Quinn, Blakely, and Colt Perran. She will also be deeply missed by her cousins Burton and Warren MacIntyre, along with countless other family members and dear friends.
She is predeceased by her parents, Archie and Muriel MacKay, and her cousin, Ethel MacIntyre.
Born on February 8th, 1960, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Mary Ann’s heart always belonged to River Denys, Cape Breton Island, where she spent her childhood and built lifelong connections. She was a radiant soul who wore many roles with grace: a devoted daughter, a loving cousin, a loyal friend, a cherished wife, a nurturing mother, and an adoring grandmother, known affectionately as “Mema.”
Mary Ann’s warmth and generosity were unmatched. Her smile could light up any room, her laughter was contagious, and her hugs provided a rare kind of comfort. She faced life’s challenges with unyielding strength, courage, and an unshakable determination, teaching all who knew her to embrace life with the same resilience and grace. Even in her final days, her beautiful smile never faded.
A proud Maritimer, Mary Ann had a gift for making everyone feel at home. She welcomed friends and family with open arms and an abundance of homemade treats, hearty meals, and steaming cups of tea or coffee. Her home was always filled with love, warmth, and the delightful aroma of something baking in the oven. Mary Ann’s enduring lesson to those she loved was simple yet profound: never give up. She stayed with us as long as she could, driven by her deep love for her family. Her unwavering spirit will remain a source of inspiration for all who knew her.
The MacDougall family extends heartfelt gratitude to the team of doctors who cared for Mary Ann with compassion and dedication.
Honouring her wishes, Mary Ann will take one final journey back to Nova Scotia, where she will be laid to rest alongside her parents in Cape Breton.
There will be a celebration of life held on January 1st, 2025 in Spruce Grove, Alberta. Please reach out to the MacDougall family for more information.
