It is with heavy hearts that the family of Melvin Propp announces his passing on August 21, 2025, in Vancouver, BC, at the age of 95.
Born in Stony Plain in 1930, Melvin was a proud Albertan who spent his life in the area. He and his beloved wife Dorothy (2018) were involved in several family business ventures over the decades. Melvin was also an active member of the community, always ready to lend a hand, share a story, and enjoy a coffee.
He often reminisced about dancing at community halls, playing cards, traveling in their 5th wheel holiday trailer, milling lumber in remote camps, harvesting crops across Alberta and the U.S., and helping to build roads, housing sites, airport runways, and golf courses. Melvin also gave his time generously as a volunteer with the Flyers Hockey Team for many years.
Melvin will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Denise and Charlene (Terry); his grandchildren: Laine (Barb), Cody, Nicole (Shaye), Stefan (Daniel), and Alexia (Fred); and his great-grandchildren: Ty (Sarah), Reece, Brynn, Mikyla, Jaylyn, and Odell. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (2018), and daughter, Janet (2025). Melvin also leaves behind many friends and neighbours who will remember him for his perseverance and kindness.
A Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the Heritage Park Pavilion in the Spruce Grove Hall, 5100 - 41 Ave, Stony Plain, Alberta.
