Rodney (Rod) Charles Schutz of Parkland County, AB went to be with his Lord and Saviour. Rod passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Rod was born on October 24, 1947 in Edmonton, AB, to Carl and Ruth Schutz. He grew up in Devon, AB, and later moved to Spruce Grove, AB. Rod married Sandie Schultz on November 1, 1968 and they lived in Stony Plain, Calgary, St. Albert and in 1979 they moved to a farm in the Brightbank area, southwest of Stony Plain.
He attended NAIT and started his adult life as a refrigeration mechanic and then moved to new home sales. This launched his ambition for sales and entrepreneurship which he pursued first as a business owner with his brother, Laurie with the No. 5 Fuels Fuel Station and then followed with the sales positions at Selmac Sales and Grove Pontiac. Eventually he transitioned into full time farming and running Golden Spike RV Storage on the yard where he grew up. He was a master of having many plates spinning at once between his job, farming and supporting his family the best he knew how.
Rod was always up for exploring whether it be a road trip, a lake, or by plane. He needed no convincing to enjoy a card game, debate a political issue, watch an NBA game, book an all-inclusive vacation or carve out time from his busy days for his family. He was a man of mechanical, musical and many other talents.
Rod’s life was defined by his love for his family, rural life and surrounding himself with great company. His contributions to the community, as a cattle producer and to the church were profound. Rod’s battle was brief but his legacy of love for family, faith and friends, work ethic and a good time will endure as we celebrate him.
Rod is survived by his loving wife, Sandie and his children and grandchildren: Warren, Michelle, Faith, Olivia and Logan Schutz; Colin, Brandy, Landon, Halle and Brodie Schutz; Geof, Tobi, Gracie and Evan Schutz; Lana, Stephen, Birkley and Cohen Nielsen. He is also survived by his brother Laurie (Fay) Schutz, and sister Dawn (Ron) Wagner along with the rest of his family and friends. Rod was predeceased by his father, Carl and his mother Ruth.
Rod's family wishes to thank all those who have been so supportive with their thoughts, prayers, and caregiving. We also especially appreciate the staff at the Westview Health Center, Misericordia Hospital and the Norwood Hospice Center for their special care.
Funeral and Interment will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Stony Plain on March 5, 2025 at 1pm, with Pastor Keith and Pastor Buck officiating.
If friends so desire a donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta.
