Sheilah Maureen Ireland (née Toner), beloved wife of Wayne Ireland, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, in Edmonton, Alberta.
Sheilah was born in Vermilion, Alberta, on September 21, 1940. She is survived by her husband of almost 66 years, Wayne; her children, Murray (Monika) and Claire (Marty); her grandchildren, Kody (Megan), Quintin (Nancy), Kelton (Kelsi), Meghan (Jake), and Laura (Cole); and her much-loved great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Felix, Aylah, Rylynn, and Beau, with another to be welcomed in July.
Sheilah is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as cousins in Ireland. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Ellen Toner; her infant son, John; her grandson, Justin; her brothers, John, Pat, Peter, and Alphonse; and her sisters, Rose, Elizabeth, Bridget, Eileen, Teresa, Alice, and Frances.
Sheilah lived a full and meaningful life, raising her family and working at Lakeland College in Vermilion. She later ventured into the business world, owning and operating three successful Irish import stores, Shops of Ireland.
Her greatest joy was found in the smiles and laughter of children. With a loving heart, she made each child feel special, embracing them as her own and ensuring they always knew they belonged and were part of her family. Sheilah shared her time and gifts generously.
She enjoyed travelling, with Ireland forever being home in her heart. In her retirement, she found great joy in Sun City Festival, Arizona, and at Laurier Lake. In Arizona, she created a community of dear friends who became like family in a home she loved deeply. At the lake, her door was always open, welcoming family and friends alike. When you entered any of her homes, you were always warmly welcomed and could count on being offered something to eat and a cup of tea.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Recreation Department, Copper Sky Seniors Community Partnership, 100 McLaughlin Drive, Spruce Grove, AB, T7X 4K2. Cheques can be made payable to Copper Sky Seniors Community Partnership. Copper Sky had been her home since May 2023, where she was well-loved and cared for while bringing joy to residents and staff alike with her singing and dancing.
