It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shelly Joanne (Siebel) Hawkins of Carvel, AB on May 27, 2025 at the Devon Hospital after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Shelly was born November 29, 1959 in Lacombe, AB. After graduating from Lacombe Composite High School, she moved to Edmonton, where she began working at the Royal Bank. It was there she met Doug, a bank customer, who would become the love of her life. Shelly and Doug were married in 1981, embarking on a beautiful journey that would last a lifetime.
Shelly was a passionate gardener who found joy in growing vegetables and beautiful flowers that brightened the yard and her home. Her vibrant blooms were a reflection of her own resilient spirit and her ability to bring beauty into the world. She took pride in her home, creating a welcoming space that was a testament to her love of family and friends.
Shelly had a zest for life that was infectious. She loved the years that she and Doug and their friends rode motorbikes planning the meals and itinerary. Her adventurous spirit was matched only by her sense of humour, which brought joy and laughter to all who knew her.
Shelly faced a profound loss at a young age, losing her parents, Allan and Ruby Siebel, in a tragic airplane crash in 1977, shortly before her 18th birthday. This loss shaped her resilience and compassion, qualities she carried throughout her life. Despite the heartache, she emerged with a huge heart, always ready to lend a hand or a listening ear to those in need.
Shelly is survived by her loving husband, Doug; her cherished children, daughter Kelsey Hawkins and son Clayton (Bella) Hawkins and their 3 sons Theo, Dominic and Matteo; her sister Debbie (Dale) Kay and their 3 children and families; her brother-in-law Neil Hawkins; her sister-in-law Cathy Hawkins (Bruce Elliot) as well as very special friends Harley and Rilla Hand of Lacombe who gave so much love and support to Shelly and Debbie after the loss of their parents. Shelly is also survived by aunts and uncles and cousins too numerous to mention but she did have a special relationship and place in her heart for her Aunt Terrie and Uncle Bob Huff of Lacombe better known as just Terrie and Bob.
Shelly was predeceased by her parents, Allan and Ruby Siebel of Lacombe as well as her father and mother-in-law Ron and Sharon Hawkins of McBride, BC.
The Hawkin’s family would like to thank the Devon Hospital staff for the wonderful care that Shelly received while she was there and how very kind and caring they were to Shelly’s family.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Shelly announced in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, tax deductible donations may be made in Shelly’s memory to the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts who play a very active role in Kelsey’s life. A donation form is on their web site: https://www.thenina.ca/donate/ or cheques can be made out to the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts.
