Stanley Neil Lamont

Stan Lamont was born on October 3, 1937, the youngest child of Neil (crop adjuster) and Ragnhildur/Ruth (school teacher) Lamont. He was born on a farm near Kandahar, SK, but the family soon moved to Lanigan, where Stan was raised and educated.

Stan was a very sociable person. To know him was to love him. From an early age he enjoyed being part of the Lanigan community when he began canvassing his neighbours to collect their shoe sizes. He was a talented musician who taught himself to play the saxophone as a teenager. This was likely an excuse to be able to attend dances every weekend and to attract girls.

Stan married Nancy in 1962. Together they raised two children, Robert and Jennifer. They began their long marriage in Saskatchewan but soon settled in Winnipeg. Stan worked for the Royal Bank for 38 years before retiring as Area Manager, Downtown Winnipeg. After retirement, they set out to Alberta to enjoy a carefree life and spend time with their grandchildren. They spent many winters down south with friends.

Stan had many joys: spending time with family and friends, listening to and playing jazz music, entertaining people with his humour, collecting and restoring antique cars, hunting with his son, curling competitively and coaching his daughter, and smoking cigars.

Stan will be lovingly remembered his wife Nancy Lamont; children Robert (Jennifer) Lamont, Melanie and Avery; Jennifer (Gerry) Sande, Matthew, Adrienne, Carolyn; The Barclays: Brett, Glenn (Shirley), Ross (Heather) and Greg (Vicky).

Stan was predeceased by his parents Neil and Ragnhildur (Helgason) Lamont; his sister Marion Barclay (brother-in-law: Robert) and his brother Glen Lamont (sister-in-law: Sheila).

He brought us much joy through his warmth and kindness, sharing his passions of music, hunting, and curling, and, most of all, loving us unconditionally.

A memorial service for Stanley will be held Friday, August 18, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Parkland Funeral Services, 3502 44th Ave, Stony Plain, AB T7Z1L1.
