On June 1, 2026, Stefanie Nina Goertz (Martin) passed away at the age of 36 years old. She is mourned by many, foremost by her much-loved husband Joseph Goertz. She is survived by her parents Merrill and Sally Martin; brother, Cameron (Heather) Martin; sister, Jennifer (James) Higgs; sister, Leanne (Perry) Tremblay; mother-in-law, Kerry (Brian) Goertz; father-in-law, Johnny Kulak; and brother-in-law, Mark (Ariana) Kulak. She loved being Auntie Stef to eight nieces and nephews; Mackenzie, Bennett, Lydia, Ivy, Brooks, Boston, Leander and Colter. She will be warmly remembered by countless family and friends.
Stefanie was born on May 20, 1990, in Edmonton, Alberta. She was a bright-eyed and contented child, who was incredibly talented in her artistic abilities, enjoyed horse-back riding and always had her head in a book. Through her years she always excelled academically, and at anything she put her mind to. She graduated from the University of Alberta with an animal science degree. From there, she began her career at the Edmonton Humane Society, where she lived out her passion for caring for animals. It was there that she adopted her fur baby, Callie, who she was inseparable from for 17 years and who was her greatest source of comfort.
On May 30, 2020, Stefanie married the love of her life Joseph Goertz in an intimate ceremony at the family acreage. Together, Stef and Joseph enjoyed video games, a love for Marvel movies and Joseph even convinced her to frequent the gun range with him. She may have been little, but she was always mighty.
Stefanie will always be remembered as being creative, artistic, a food connoisseur, book lover, talented cookie decorator, and for her love of vibrant colours. She was introverted, caring most deeply for those closest to her.
Stefanie’s life-long battle with chronic illness was hard fought but gifted her with resilience, compassion and empathy.
Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects at 1:00pm on Friday June 12, 2026 at Beulah Alliance Church located at 17504 98A Ave NW Edmonton (west entrance). In memory of Stefanie’s love for bright colours, we encourage you to wear an outfit that will bring the room to light.
