It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden unexpected passing of our beloved father, son, grandfather, brother and friend, Thomas Arthur Johnson, of natural causes on March 8, 2017, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Tom is mourned with fond and loving memories by his four children, Luke (Melissa), Summerland BC, Dallas (Valarie), Wellesley ON, Ben (Chantelle), New Hamburg ON and Guerlyn Johnson, Edmonton AB; the mother of his children Judy (Leis) Johnson; his mother Beatrice Johnson; his adoring grandchildren Mia, Adysen, Ryder, Brielle, Sarah, Caryss and Elandra; his siblings Sue (Gary), Rick (Margot), Bart (Jessica) and Dwight (Donna); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Tom was predeceased by his father Dennis Arthur Johnson.
Tom was born on June 26, 1953, in Moose Jaw SK. After getting his MD degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1980, he started his practice in Williams Lake BC In 1993, Tom returned to school at Queen’s University in Kingston, ON, and went on to become an accomplished anesthesiologist, practising in Fort McMurray AB, Saskatoon SK and Medicine Hat AB.
Known for his big smile and even larger heart, Tom would give the shirt off his back to a friend, or even a stranger in need. As a lover of travel, he took countless trips with his loved ones and to visit family, as well as many humanitarian aid adventures in places like Ecuador, Haiti, Dominican Republic and Honduras.
Tom was a man of deep conviction, measureless generosity and an unconditional love for his family and friends. He thought nothing of driving hours out of his way to connect with the people he loved or to see a hockey game or to play in the annual Grey Cup Family Classic with his brothers. Few people have tried to cram so much into one life, or one day. He will be forever missed and remembered for his backyard football games, impassioned golf rounds, Roughrider and Oilers memorabilia gifts and early morning “Gramps” cuddles with his grandkids.
Arrangements under the direction of Parkland Funeral Services, Stony Plain, AB.
