It is with profound sadness that the family of William "Bill" Logan Escott, CD announce his sudden passing on October 4, 2026, at the age of 82 years.
Bill was born on October 29, 1943, in Vancouver, British Columbia, to Russell Evan Escott and Virginia Van Deusen Logan. An only child, Bill was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife, Ferne Frances Escott, and his daughter, Cheryl.
Although Bill had no siblings of his own, he was warmly welcomed into Ferne's large family, and her brothers and sisters became his own - Eileen (Sam) Harding, Ralph Kirkland, Linda Kirkland and Brian (Gail) Kirkland. The bonds he shared with them remained an important and cherished part of his life.
Bill proudly served his country in the Canadian Forces, beginning his military career as a lineman and rising to the rank of Master Corporal (MCpl). He served in CFB Shilo, Manitoba (1970-1972), CFB Lahr, West Germany (1975-1978) and CFB Cold Lake, Alberta (1972-1975; 1978-1984). In recognition of his dedicated service, he was awarded the Canadian Forces' Decoration (CD). Throughout his military career and beyond, Bill was known for his quiet strength, dependability, and commitment to those around him.
Following his military service, Bill devoted more than two decades to education as an instructor in the Telecommunications Program at NAIT, where he taught from 1984 until his retirement. He took great pride in helping students develop both technical skills and the confidence needed to succeed in their careers.
Bill was a lifelong learner and an avid reader who rarely missed completing the daily crossword puzzle in the Edmonton Journal. He found some of his greatest joy outdoors, especially while fishing with his son and granddaughters. Those days spent together created memories that his family will treasure forever.
Bill and Ferne enjoyed a long and happy retirement together, spending many winters in Yuma, Arizona. There they formed lasting friendships, embraced an active social life, and delighted in the warmth and beauty of the desert sun. The friendships they made in Yuma remained dear to them throughout their lives.
Closer to home, Bill greatly valued the friendships he found at the Stony Plain Legion. Whether attending Friday night steak nights, participating in Saturday meat draws, or simply enjoying the company of fellow members, Bill felt a strong sense of belonging there. Following Ferne's passing in June 2025, the Legion became an especially important source of companionship and support and was truly his second home.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Three Robins Stony Plain, whose kindness and care made Bill's transition to his new home in August 2026 welcoming and comfortable.
Bill is lovingly remembered by his son, Russ (Cindy); his cherished granddaughters, Teela (Kevin) Gardiner, Janelle, and Kendra; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Harper, Lincoln, and Hudson Gardiner. The quiet wisdom, steadfast loyalty, and gentle sense of humour of our Dad and Grandpa will be deeply missed.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Inga Cemetery, located on Secondary Highway 627, southwest of Stony Plain, Alberta. Family and friends are warmly invited to a luncheon and time of fellowship following the service at the Royal Canadian Legion, Stony Plain Branch, 4902-44 Avenue, Stony Plain, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Bill's memory.
