Gene grew up attending school with her sister Verna in Kingston and Manchester, and further completed her first, second and third Jamaica local exams.
She got married to Stanley Johnson in 1956. And following the birth of Oliver, she immigrated to England in 1957 where she was trained as S.E.N. Nurse. While in England, the family further expanded following the birth of Jennifer, Pamela and Mark.
Gene was known to friends and family for her love, care and hospitality. In particular, she was an excellent cook and would not see no one go hungry.
In 1974, the family immigrated to Canada where she continued in the health care services. Due to her deep concern and care for others, she started a “Rest Homes” business, with her son Oliver. Her passion also included her involvement in the hospitality department in the various churches where she attended in B.C., Ontario and Alberta.
As her failing health deteriorated, she could no longer continue her previous church duties; but she would make all efforts to still attend church services.
On May 28, 2026, she passed away peacefully to her rest surrounded by family; and now awaits the glorious resurrection.
