Lydia R. Gavan, 70 of Stony Point, NY, passed away on March 16, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. She fought each day with such amazing strength and determination. Her positive spirit was contagious. She died peacefully and comfortably with her family at her bedside.
She was born in the Bronx, NY on October 17, 1946 to Fernando Vidal and Clara Ramos. Lydia attended and graduated from Mother Cabrini High School. She was a nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY for many years. Upon retirement, she continued to work at Rockland Urology for several years.
Lydia married the love of her life Robert M. Gavan on November 1, 1969. They had five loving children together: Bobby (Jessica) Gavan, Brian Gavan, Kelly Gavan, Colleen Gill (Michael) and Timothy. Lydia was blessed with ten grandchildren who she loved with all her heart: Megan, Liam, Logan, Kaden, Emily, Julia, Cameran, Jordyn, Regan and Delaney.
She loved spending time with her family; especially preparing her delicious Christmas dinners each year and watching her children and grandchildren open gifts. She was the best Santa ever. One of her favorite things to do was go the Borgota in Atlantic City with her husband and friends. She looked forward the most to spending the annual family trip at the Jersey Shore. That most definitely put a smile on her face and in her heart. West Colony Ave. will never be the same.
Visiting hours are at the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 PM. Funeral Mass is at Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 9:45 am. Committal will follow at Frederick Loescher Memorial Cemetery, New Hempstead, NY.
