Barbara D. Bolton, age 94, passed away peacefully at her residence at Sandhill Cove, Palm City, FL, on February 19, 2023. She was born in Andover MA, to James L. and Marion M. Dean, and was the youngest of three girls, all raised on Kensington Street in the Shawsheen Village of Andover, MA. Barbara was a graduate of Abbot Academy in Andover, MA, and Garland Junior College, in Boston, MA. Barbara smiled and often would say what a wonderful childhood she had "before computers" and how much she loved life with her family.
In 1948, at age 20, Barbara married Wallace L. Bolton, of North Andover, and together they raised three children, living in both West Boxford, MA and in Andover, MA for over forty years. They enjoyed living close to their families, and were long standing members of the North Andover Country Club. Upon Wallace's retirement from Bolton-Emerson in Lawrence, MA, the couple moved to Palm City, FL in 1991, where they enjoyed many golf games, bridge, and making new friends. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before Wallace's passing in 2010. Barbara lived a full life with her friends at Sandhill Cove, often baking custards and cookies to share, participating in both the landscape and interior decorating committees, organizing dinners, bingo and bridge games, and loved a good phone conversation whenever possible. She loved visits from her children and grandchildren and was often outside enjoying her patio, near the maple tree her husband planted 20 years ago.
Barbara is predeceased by her parents James and Marion Dean, and her two sisters, Marjorie Marsden and Dorothy Johnson. Barbara leaves behind 3 children, Susan B. Lee of Alexandria, VA, William W. Bolton (Dianne) of Hancock, NH and Venice, FL, and Betsy St. Germain (Phil) of Cape Elizabeth, ME; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer (Lance), Andrew, Meredith (Kellen), Paige (Crosby) and Sam; 2 great-grandchildren Claire and Alexander, and a third on the way!
Barbara continued to give ‘mom advice’ to her children up to the time of her death. She cherished her many nieces and nephews and friends near and far. We will hold many wonderful memories of her!
We are grateful for the caring people at Sandhill Cove and Treasure Coast Hospice who gave time to stop in to visit and to help Barbara these past few years. A memorial service will be held in the near future in Andover MA, with interment in the West Parish Cemetery, Andover, MA. Memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, Stuart, FL.
