

Daniel Francis McCarthy, 90, of Stuart passed away November 13, 2014 at Martin Nursing & Restorative Care in Stuart. Daniel was born in New York, NY; he grew up in Belle Harbor Rockaway, NY, and was a life guard there. He graduated from Xavier High School in NYC. After HS he joined the army toward the end of WWII; was stationed in Germany and wounded during the Liberation of concentration camps . Dan was awarded the Purple Heart. After a year or so after recovering from his wounds he attended Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD on the GI bill. Daniel was a sales representative for Van Raalte Lingerie Company, during this time he met his wife, Genevieve, who was a model for the company. He loved to be around people and this helped the success of his sales career. He changed careers after 25 years and in 1975, became a stock broker and owned a seat on the New York Stock Exchange. He worked for Moors & Cabot and Robb & Robb Inc. He moved to Stuart 14 years ago, coming from Melbourne, FL prior to that he lived in Manhasset, Long Island. Daniel was a devout Catholic and member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, Mariner Sands Country Club and had been an avid golfer as a member of Plandome Country Club, Manhasset Long Island. Daniel was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He was a compassionate person and very generous. Survivors include son, Timothy McCarthy and wife, Barbara of Kinnelon, NJ; sister, Patricia Heeg of Sea Island, GA; five grandchildren, Michael McCarthy, Sara McCarthy, Casey Kelley, T. J. Kelley, and Megan Kelley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve; daughter, Margaret “Meg” Kelley; brother, Jack McCarthy and sister, Dolores McCooey. Inurnment will take place on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, 11 AM with military honors at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, FL. .
