Doris Marie Eckes

Doris Marie Barille Eckes, 86 of Hobe Sound, Florida passed away peacefully on January 15, 2016. She was born in Howard Beach, New York. As a child Doris loved spending time with her family, horseback riding, and camp. She received a bachelor’s degree in Education from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, NY. Early employment years brought the opportunity to teach the young minds of elementary school children – kindergarten, first, and second grades.

In 1952 she left her teaching career and married her love, Robert Eckes, who together raised six children. Following Bob through an Army posting in El Paso Texas, they settled on Long Island to raise the family. In 1971 everyone moved to Florida where they have since lived.

Doris provided a firm but guiding hand with her family and nurtured the children into strong, responsible, caring adults. With her children grown Doris re-entered the workforce as a Human Resources representative at St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach until she retired in 1999 to spend her time enjoying her grandchildren.

When you think of Doris you will remember her fondly playing endless games of Mah Jong, Sudoku or working quietly at a jigsaw puzzle; the use of her mechanical pencils to draw up her dream house plans “just because”; having rye toast, pickled herring or liver and onions; being outside playing or watching one of a variety of sport games. Throughout life and until her death Doris was a strong, insightful, caring and God-fearing woman who loved her family unconditionally; they loved her back.

Doris is predeceased by her husband Robert and daughter Mary Janice; her parents Arthur and Margaret Barille and a sister Joan Griffin.

She will be deeply missed by her brother Arthur Barille (Pat) of Lake Worth, FL; her children: Ellen Eckes of Falls Church, VA, Bob Eckes of Sanford, FL, Jim Eckes of Stuart, FL, Tom Eckes of Brandon, FL, Jeanne Eckes-Roper (John) of The Villages, FL and Karen Eckes Perucki (Jon) of Tomball, TX; her 11 grandchildren: Wil Eckes of Sanford, FL, Cole Eckes of Sanford, FL, Ashley Eckes Lee (Daniel) of Jupiter, FL, Philip Eckes of West Palm Beach, FL, Mary Kate Eckes of Orlando, FL, Robert Jon Perucki of San Antonio, TX, Gregory Perucki in the US Navy, Rachel Perucki of Tomball, TX, Stephanie Lamas of Miami, FL, Katie Roper Lade of Davie, FL, Patrick Lamas of Mandeville, LA and a great grandchild Braden Lee of Jupiter, FL.
