James English Brown died at peace with his Lord on September 17th, 2020. He lived a full and active life of 96 years until just two weeks prior to his passing. He was born in Oyster Bay, NY on May 14, 1924, the son of Oscar Pendelton Brown and Maud Elizabeth English. He served his country in the United States Navy in both World War II and the Korean War where he learned what would become his life-long profession. Upon separating from the military, he founded Hicksville Clinical Laboratory in Hicksville, NY which he owned and operated until his retirement.
He was predeceased by his four siblings Oscar, Betty, Grace and Jane and a son, James English Brown, Jr. His first wife, Johanna Meine Brown, also predeceased him in 1995 after a fifty-one-year marriage, as did his second wife, Beryl Doreen Brown, in 2020 after a twenty-four-year marriage.
He is survived by two daughters, Joanne Brown Burt (Michael) and Sandra Brown Engel (Richard) and by a step-daughter Laurie Eckles Rogge (Mike); seven grandchildren, Jennifer Burt, Katie Burt Kelly (Tim), Christopher James Engel (Gina), Tara Engel Chapman (Paul), Joshua Brown Engel (Katie), Janna Engel Murphy (Steve) and James English, Brown, III; four step grandchildren, Shaun Rogge, Justin Rogge (Anna), Ryan Rogge and Kelly Rogge. He is also survived by twelve great grandchildren: Amanda Engel, Jacob Engel, Elizabeth Engel, Parker Chapman, Eli Chapman, Alex Engel, Luke Engel, Benjamin Engel, Teddy Murphy, Margot Murphy, Wills Murphy and Eleanor Murphy and one step-great grandchild, Lily Rogge.
Jim was known as an avid golfer (golfing into his 90th year), a devoted and faithful husband for seventy-five years, a dedicated follower of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and His church, and a cordial friend to anyone and everyone. In God's timing, he is at rest and at peace.
