It has been my honor and privilege to be Jim's son-in-law. What a full and robust life this wonderful man has had! I have known him alive for longer than I have known my own father alive, another great man and inspiration in my life.  Jim was a role model, and I am blessed to be a part of his family. He always was interested in hearing about my week instead of talking about himself when we talked recently on the phone and was particularly interested in our MovieMen film reviews. What an encyclopedic knowledge, understanding and appreciation of all genres! Uncle Paul told me how much he enjoyed seeing all the movies with his older brother, especially westerns. Such a multi-faceted  giant of a man, touched everyone that knew him... too many great happy  stories to tell. Compassionate leader of "the family". ... I hope that he will continue to always watch over all of us... with love... forever my Don Cariani.

My grandpa was the kind of person you always knew you were fortunate to know, being his grandson is an amazing blessing on it's own. I'll never forget how much fun he made visiting him was. Always taking me to the beach, movies, out to eat, places he knew I liked. He also got me to try new things, like kayaking, and rock climbing, opening my mind up to new interests. He was always so engaged with my life, always keeping up with my interests, favorite movies, and what was going on in my life. The kind of person who always sang to me and my family on all our birthdays, bringing a smile to my face. He would always make holidays with the family very welcoming and something to always look forward to. He loved learning something new from everyone he talked to and sharing fun stories about his life, you could talk with him for hours and never be tired. He was one of the most gentle, strongest, and hardworking, smartest men I've had the great pleasure of knowing. I look back extremely thankful to have had him in my life to give me so many pleasant memories that I will always cherish and hold.

My grandfather (Grampy) is someone I have always admired. He was wise, well-read, and always a calming presence in my life.

My favorite memories of Grampy are the simple ones. At breakfast, on mornings I visited for a few days in the summer I remember him sitting legs crossed at the dining room table, reading the paper with a cup of joe, occasionally reaching for a saltine from a freshly opened sleeve. There was something really quite elegant about it.

Over the past few years I've occasionally tried to reproduce Grampy's breakfast ritual, though to little success. Not as good as the original. Still, it brings back memories.

I'll always remember those summer mornings, and miss them dearly.

I love you Grampy.

I have many fond memories of uncle Jim and I’m sorry it has been too long since I last saw him. What an amazing father and husband. My condolences to the whole family. 

When I got my license at the age of 16, Google maps did not exist,  so I usually just asked my dad for directions. His hand-drawn maps were tiny works of art. They were more or less to scale, and included not only landmarks like the Texaco station on the left or the the church on the right, but the cloverleaf you had to follow to get on the highway, the tricky underpass, the exact spot where you could make a U-turn, the exit on the rotary you didn’t want to miss. He always warned me to drive carefully, but he also always told me to have a good time when I left. It was a simple thing. He was not a guy who was into metaphors, but I think of those maps and think that he’d give the same advice on how to live a good life. Take it slow.  Make a plan and follow it. Try to figure out what the obstacles might be. And then, enjoy the ride. Love you Dad.

Hi Denise and family,

I will miss my oldest and best friend Jim. 
We have known each other since 2nd grade in Medford. We became close friends through Junior High and HS. We were ushers at each others weddings, and after Jim and Denise were married we kept in touch, Jim had unique humor, and always spoke highly of his friends-especially the Dedham Group. About 2 or three times a year, Ann and I would have lunch with them, and talk about our families and vacations. Lunch often lasted for 2  or more hours. Phone calls have been frequent since they moved  to Florida. We were at Jim"s 70th and they came to my 80th . Our memories are  treasured of our friend Jim. God Bless Jim, may you rest in peace.
