
John (Jack) Sylvester McLaughlin of Sag Harbor, New York and Stuart, Florida, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 11, 2021 at the age of 84. He was born on March 5, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, grew up in St Albans, Queens and spent his summers in Pine Neck. While in Sag Harbor he met and married the love of his life, Mary Ann. They were married for 64 years. Jack served 6 years in the US Army with the 10th Mountain Division where he was stationed in Germany for most of his tour. He was a member of the American Legion Chelberg & Battle Post 388, a 28 year member of the Sag Harbor Volunteer Fire department, a member of the Sag Harbor Lions Club, and also served as a trustee for the Village of North Haven. Jack won the coveted title of “Old Whaler “ for the 1964 Sag Harbor Whalers Festival. He was an avid boater who enjoyed every moment that he spent out on the water. He was an active member of the Sag Harbor Yacht Club for over 50 years and served 4 terms as Commodore of the club. Jack was a successful businessman and started his own sanitation business in 1958 with his brother-in-law. He also had several rental properties in Sag Harbor. Upon his retirement, he and his wife travelled cross country countless times in their Airstream with the International Travel Club. They also made several trips in their boat going from Sag Harbor to their home in Florida. Jack was an adventurous and remarkable man that touched the lives of many wherever he went. He truly was a Jack of all trades. His devotion to his family was the epitome of love. Jack is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Ficorelli) of Stuart, FL, son, Stephen and his wife, Mary of Sag Harbor, NY, daughter, Amy of Stuart, FL and his 4 grandchildren; Stephen Jr and wife Maria of Center Moriches, NY, Molly and husband Colin of Sag Harbor, NY and Madeline and Parker of Stuart, FL. Capt. Jack navigated the calm and tempest waters of Life with dignity, commitment and service, always attending to his duty at the helm. Rest peacefully our beloved Capt. Jack and may you have fair winds and following seas. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Sag Harbor. Memorial donations may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
