The son of Russell and Lois Wiley, Joe was born and raised in Stuart, FL where he and his brother Jim learned to fly as teenagers. Joe was a great story-teller, and he wrote many stories about growing up in Stuart in the 1950s.
His love of flying led to a lifetime in aviation. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Army Ranger in the 82nd Airborne and was chosen Soldier of the Year for that division in 1961. He flew for National Airlines, and later in corporate/private aviation. After he retired from flying, Joe owned his own business, investigating airplane crashes. His work took him to many locations in the U.S. and throughout the world.
Joe was a very adventurous man. He loved boating, scuba diving, hang gliding, para gliding, among others. He was a creative person and loved to build things. As such, he designed and built several of his own houses; he also had a passion for restoring MGs. And he was an animal lover. Over the years, he had pet dogs, cats, and raccoons.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Lois Stone Wiley, daughter Amy Wiley Berwick, grandsons Chad Berwick and Craig Berwick.
Also surviving are his brothers Jim Wiley (Grace) and Jerry Wiley (Amey); nieces Barbie Wiley (Annie), Connie Wiley, Cindy Wiley-Rhude (Bill), Patricia Sawyer (Dakota), and Deborah Bruno (Frank); cousins Mildred Clonts and Jennifer Johnson Strauss; greatnieces and nephews. His extended family includes Jean Jackson (Jim), Martha Cuthbert (Bryan), Debbie Jefferies (Randy), Pam Schutzenhoffer (Paul), Donna Renew (Rocky), Kelly Gwynn (Andy), Tommy Schutzenhoffer, Jimmy Moore (Stephanie), Chris Moore (Chandra),and Debbie Flocco, as well as many life-long friends.
