

Kurt grew up along the Mississippi River in Moline, Illinois. He attended schools in Rock Island County and graduated from Moline High School in 1969.
Following graduation he joined the Army and served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the Fifth US Army as a helicopter mechanic and repairman. He was awarded an Army Commendation Medal for bravery plus several other medals.
Besides helicopters, Kurt loved airplanes and flying. He learned to fly when he was 16 years old. He once owned a single engine Cessna and a hang glider. In his later years he became knowledgeable on the different aircraft – American, British and German – flown during WWII.
Kurt is predeceased by his parents, Clayton Arthur Johnson and Agnes Eleanor Walmsley Johnson.
He is survived by his sisters, Wendy Lucas of Stuart, Florida, Julie Edmonds of Clermont, Florida and brothers, Kris Johnson of Stuart, Florida and Mark Johnson, as well as sister-in-law, Jan Johnson of Colona, Illinois, plus many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins both in the United States and England.
For many years, Kurt had a long haired cat named Pikachu, whom he loved very much and who brought great joy and comfort to his life. In memory of them both, donations can be made to Domino’s House Cat Rescue League, google Domino's House Rescue of Palm City. The address is 4546 SW Honey Terrace, Palm City, FL 34990.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Cornerstones of PSL, especially Rosie’s Place for taking good care of him in his final years.
A private graveside service will be conducted at a later date at Western Township Cemetery in Orion, Illinois.
