Martha ‘Marty’ Cyr passed away unexpectedly on April 21st , the result of an unforeseen medical emergency. She and her husband of 36 years, Roland ‘Moe’ Cyr, were residents of the Eaglewood community in Hobe Sound, Florida, where they had settled after retirement.
Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, to Richard and Joan Straw Kidd, Marty followed several other relatives in attending Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA then followed that with a degree from Connecticut College. She was very proud of her educational experiences and maintained connections with both schools through their alumni activities.
She then started her working life in New York City on the sales floor at the iconic retailer, Bloomingdales. Positions there and at other organizations led her to LL Bean in Freeport, Maine, where she ended her career as Vice-President of Human Resources in 2009, after a 25-year career in that organization.
She and Moe retired to Eaglewood shortly after where she enjoyed an active retirement of golf and bridge, her preferences among the many available amenities. Throughout her career and retirement, Marty also maintained a busy schedule of volunteering for many committees and boards wherever a need presented itself. She was universally liked, respected, and was always considered an asset to the endeavor.
Marty is survived by her husband, Roland ‘Moe’ Cyr, an aunt, Pollie Straw-Thayer of Little Compton, RI, nieces and nephews Sophie Kidd, Al Kidd, Matthew Kidd and his wife Julie, and Ella Kidd Helstedt and her husband Eric. She is pre-deceased by her parents, Richard and Joan Kidd, and brothers, Peter, and James.
Per Marty’s wishes, no formal services are planned. Celebrations of Life will be held this summer in Maine and in the fall in Florida. Dates and times to be determined.
Marty will be remembered by all who encountered her as the most caring and kind soul they ever met.
