Beloved husband of 53 years to the late Regina, guiding father of two sons, Robert (Amy) and Jeffrey (Jennifer), and spoiling grandfather of five, Thomas, Will, Charlie, Camille and Kendall. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 3, 1942 to Robert and Germaine Warnock and was the oldest sibling to his brother Kenneth (Betsy) Warnock and his late sister Geri (Dave) DeBusschere.
He was educated at St. Anne's School, Garden City, NY; Chaminade High School (class of 1960), Mineola, NY; and Boston College (class of 1964). Bob honorably served in the United States Naval Reserve and was a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch in Garden City, NY for over 40 years. Bob was the bedrock of his immediate and extended family and a loyal, affable and cherished friend to countless others. He was an unwavering source of immeasurable strength and support to so many and always provided it in a uniquely quiet and easy manner without so much as accepting any recognition or showing any signs of being put out. “No problem” or “oh, don’t worry about it” was his typical response, no matter the task. Bob was also as loyal a person as you could ever know and he forged deep bonds and enduring relationships with so many people over his years. “Such a great guy,” while fitting, is an understatement when it comes to how people felt about him. In raising his family, Bob was a close and present father and husband and heavily involved in the Syosset community and the St. Edward the Confessor parish. Be it coaching his sons in sports, captaining the family boat, waxing the family’s skis, manning the backyard grill, or hosting holiday get togethers, Bob was the engine driving activities and events where family and friends gathered, bonded and shared laughter and joy. Bob’s character and spirit did not wane over time, as evidenced in his later years at the Mariner Sands Country Club in Stuart, FL where he, along with Regina, became an active member of the community and quickly forged strong relationships, many of which were with old friends from his high school and college youth. When it came to himself, Bob had a unique way of downplaying things and never wanted anyone to worry about him or be a source of focus or inconvenience.
While his passing was tragically sudden, there is some comfort in knowing that he was able to pass away in that same manner and in doing so he also gave his family and friends the gift of never having to see him suffer. Bob had an affinity for vintage cars which is quite fitting given he can aptly be described as a true classic, the likes of which they just don’t make any more. He was a man of faith and we take comfort in knowing that he has moved on to a better place, a place that just got a little better because of his arrival.
There will be arrangements to honor and celebrate his life in both Florida and New York. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor to the Chaminade High School Torch Fund (https://www.chaminade-hs.org/support/torch-fund), where he and numerous family members attended, would be appreciated.
