He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Lee, Sr. and Mabel Cornelia (Benson) Coffey, and sister, Jean Carol (Coffey) Varner.
He is survived by his daughter, Carrey Lynne Hirt (Brandon); siblings, Mae Cornelia Swartz (Peter), Constance Lee Dorsey, Anthony Frank Coffey (Sissy), and Barbara Ellen Hall; aunt, Carlene “Rinky” (Benson) Desper; uncle, Theron “Spritz” Benson; and a number of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
Charles was a retired mechanic and also worked for many years at General Electric in Waynesboro. He was an avid drag racing fan and could often be found at the races at Eastside Speedway. He shared his passion for drag racing with his brother, Andy, and together they could often be found ”tinkering” on one vehicle or another.
Following cremation, all services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Augusta Regional SPCA in honor of Bimmy’s love for his dogs.
