Obituary of Clara Isabella (Campbell) Harris
Clara Isabella Harris, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Shenandoah Nursing & Rehab Center in Fishersville. Isabella was born on November 6, 1925, in Montebello, a daughter of the late George Wyatt Sr. and Lillian Betty (Fitzgerald) Campbell. During her early years living on her beloved mountain in Montebello, she attended various one room schools. In 1947, Isabella moved with her family from Montebello to Stuarts Draft. She started attending Stuarts Draft Baptist church where she later became a member and was employed at DuPont in Waynesboro where she met her life’s partner, George. They married in 1952 and she stopped working outside the home to raise her family in 1956. During her time at Stuarts Draft Baptist Church she worked different functions, but most important to her was ministering and visiting the elderly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Harris Jr. on June 3, 1991; brothers, William Campbell, Corbert Campbell, Bob Campbell, and George Campbell Jr.; and sister, Madge Coffey. Survivors include sons, Larry Steven Harris and wife, Anita, of Stuarts Draft, and Timothy Mark Harris of Stuarts Draft; daughter, Gail (Harris) Knighting and husband, Vann, of Staunton; grandchildren, Gwen Knighting, Ben Harris and wife, Kelly, Brandon Harris, Nick Harris, Madelyn Knighting, and Taylor Knighting; great-grandchildren, Baylee Harris and Violet Harris; brother, Thomas Campbell and wife, Martha, of Stuarts Draft; sister, Janet Bess of Waynesboro; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Campbell, Mickey Campbell, and Sandy Campbell. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Stuarts Draft Baptist Church, 2517 Stuarts Draft Highway, with the Rev. Dr. William Kopp officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be her nephews attending the service. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces attending the service and her great niece, Katie Lunsford. The family will receive friends at Stuarts Draft Baptist Church from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
