Frank grew up in Kirkwood, NY and attended Langdon Christian Church with his parents. It was during that time that he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was Baptized while attending that church at the age of 17. His parents had a small farm and it was then that he became interested in farming.
After graduating from North High School in Binghamton, NY, in 1945, he joined the US Navy and was trained as a hospital Corpsman. He served in several Military hospitals in NY and RI. He was discharged in 1948.
He first met Ruth Jayne through letter correspondence while he was stationed at St. Albans, Long Island, NY. After being discharged they started dating. He started college at Delhi Ag & Tech College in the fall of 1948 and he and Ruth were married on April 8th, 1950, just before he graduated from the 2 yr. Agricultural program.
Frank and his dad had purchased a farm, just outside of Tunnel, NY. He and Ruth lived on that farm until 1955 when he went to work for a feed company, then a farm in North Rose, NY. He then took a job near Ithaca, NY, at the Cornell University Reed Farm. He and his growing family were there for 10 years. While living in Ithaca, he attended and actively served at Bethel Grove Baptist Church, then Snyder Hill Baptist Church.
In 1967, his career as a herdsman then took him back to Delhi, NY, to manage the College farm. While living in Delhi, he was a faithful member of the Community Church in Delhi. While serving there, he was the AWANA Commander, taught Sunday School Classes and served as an Elder. He and Ruth also led a Bible study for college students. He took early retirement from that position in 1983.
Even though Frank retired, he remained active in serving at church and helping his grown sons in various projects. He and Ruth also served at The Friends of Israel Mission headquarters in NJ doing grounds maintenance and office work. After working there for three years, he decided to fully retire and purchased a home in Woodlawn, VA.
While in Woodlawn, he and Ruth continued to faithfully attend and serve Victory Way Baptist Church as Deacon, Trustee and in many other capacities. He also volunteered for the Carroll County District 3 program which assists low-income families in various ways for 10 yrs. He worked at Mountain View Youth Bible Camp in Dugspur, VA for 20 years as a maintenance assistant.
Also, while living in Woodlawn, he and Ruth were able to travel to many States in the US which was enjoyable for them both. He also was an avid reader and gardener. Ruth then developed dementia and he faithfully took care of her and their home as well.
In 2019, when taking care of a house got to be too much for him, Frank made the decision to sell their home in Woodlawn. He and Ruth went to live in Stuarts Draft, VA to be closer to his son, Ron, and his family. He attended church at Valley Baptist Church as long as he was able.
Since early 2024, he and Ruth have been well taken care of in a private adult care home in Lyndhurst VA.
Throughout all his life, Frank has been a faithful husband and father. He raised his sons to be responsible father’s as well and if asked what legacy he would want to leave his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren, it would be that they come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior and that they follow and serve Him their entire lives.
Interment was held on October 17, 2025 at Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery, Stuarts Draft, VA.
A memorial service for Ruth and Frank will be held on November 1st at Valley Baptist Church, Stuarts Draft, VA, at 11 am. The service will be live-streamed from valleybaptistchurchva.org. If interested in virtually attending, please email [email protected], 2-3 days before for more instructions.
