He was born October 11, 1947, a son of the late L.H. and Violet Lee Lawhorne.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George Lawhorne, L. H. Lawhorne, Jr. and a step-daughter, Connie Lowery.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy Lawhorne and her children, Ricky Thornton (Callee), Cody Thorton; 6 step grandchildren, Maddie Craun, Daisy, Francie, Presley, Hattie, Story Thornton; daughter, Crystal Lawhorne-Allen (Steve Allen; two granddaughters, Demie Allen and Hallie Allen-Lewis (Kye Lewis);brother, Robert Lawhorne (Alice Lawhorne) and their sons, Bobby, Larry, Mike; step-grand daughter, Autumn Swann-Barb; nephews, Jeffrey, Randy, Jason, Tony, Brian, niece Suzanne; special nephew, Mike Lawhorne who was like a son to him; his aunt, Emily Wagner whom he adored.
He also leaves his former wife, Ellen Lawhorne and companion, Steve Chittum.
Pete worked with his father for many years at Lawhorne Construction Company, and also for Doug Alexander Construction. He was a skilled landscaper and then worked with Mitch Diehl and Shelby Alexander. His last employment was with Food Lion in Stuarts Draft in the produce department before retirement.
Pete loved hunting, deer and turkey were his favorites. He enjoyed watching nascar and wrestling. In his younger years he was a member of the Waynesboro Police Reserves. Anyone that knew Pete knew what a giving person he was and an overall nice guy. He fought hard the last 1 ½ years against bladder cancer and left this world leaving a whole in many hearts. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Faith Hope and Love Fellowship Church, 89 Arrow Lane, Stuarts Draft, Va. (the old Moose Lodge). Please dress causal.
Donations may be made in his honor to the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services, Lyndhurst, Va.
