Joyce (Fretwell) Henkel

Born October 27, 1946 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Elijah Jackson and Ella Virginia (Coffey) Fretwell.

Joyce was a faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Stuarts Draft. Prior to retirement, she was employed by the former American Safety Razor in Verona. Joyce greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially cooking and baking for them. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee “Billy” Henkel; brother, Douglas Norman Fretwell; and son-in-law, Blaine Zimmerman.

Survivors include her daughter, Kimberley Zimmerman of Stuarts Draft; grandson, Michael Henkel of CT; and cousins, Orvil Painter and wife, Bessie of Waynesboro, Daniel Painter and wife, Barbara of Crimora, and Ima Painter of Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 2179 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft with Pastor David Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
