Bertram (Bert) Everett Lockhart Jr, (81) of Lunenburg died at home, surrounded by his loving family, on July 6, 2021, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Bert was born in Sudbury, MA on December 02, 1939. Bert was happily married to Marcia Lockhart (Cullen) recently celebrating their 37th anniversary on June 22nd. They enjoyed taking trips together and most memorable being to Hawaii as evident by his Hawaii hat and dancing hula girl on his car dashboard. Bert was a fan of NASCAR, but if he was not watching cars, he always enjoyed jumping in the driver’s seat and exploring the roads less traveled and finding new ways to get places taking the back roads enjoying the view as he drove.
Bert spent many years in Sudbury where he started building homes with his father and later becoming a legendary figure at the American Legion. He took great pride in his Country and in all the work he did. He built many lasting friendships in his years at the Legion and still is a remembered figure there for his burgers, and more importantly, for the relationships he formed and the memories that were made.
Bert and Marcia spent 15 years living in Largo, Florida prior to moving back to Lunenburg 7 years ago. While in Florida, Bert worked as a facilities maintenance worker at an assisted living complex where he demonstrated his strong work ethic, ability to fix anything, and most importantly bringing comfort and joy to those around him. Bert enjoyed the sun and the ocean and made many new friends during his time in Florida.
Bert had a passion for the Tampa Bay Rays and you would find him daily cheering them on, even more so when they were playing the Red Sox. Bert would be seen wearing the hat with the TB on front most days, as he sat outside swinging on the front porch watching the hummingbirds or on the back deck enjoying the birds on the feeders. He was always there to help fix things around the house, put things together, always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. While he may not have been a man of many words, his actions showed the love he had for his family and his friends.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Marcia Lockhart and five children: Brenda Sullivan and her husband John of Maynard, MA, Bruce Lockhart and his wife Diane of Saco, Maine, Kara Gallant and her husband Shawn of Lunenburg, MA, Paul St Cyr Jr and his wife Karen of Ramsey, Minnesota, and Scott St Cyr of Franklin, MA. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren; Brooke Likens, Bruce Jr. Lockhart, Cori Robichaud, Dylan Sullivan, Tristan Gallant, Samantha Gallant, Dean St Cyr, Sarah St Cyr, Dylan St Cyr; two great grand kids and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his sister, Eugenia Audrey Lockhart, and two brothers Robert Lohness and George Lohness.
Family and friends can honor Bert’s life by gathering for calling hours on Thursday July 22nd from 10am to 11am at the Duckett-J.S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road/Route 20, Sudbury. Immediately following the calling hours there will be a service at the funeral home at 11am.
